The prostate role? When worry about that?

The prostate is a gland that is part of the male genital apparatus (secondary sexual organ), and contributes to various functions, including urinary function.
Why is prostate health important?
The prostate is designed to produce the prostate fluid that gives vitality to the spermatozoa but above all it has the ability to control the flow of urine. An unhealthy prostate risks swelling and, in addition to losing its essential functions, is the cause of some unfortunately very common problems.

The enlarged prostate is also known as benign prostatic hypertrophy, prostate adenoma and benign prostatic hyperplasia. 
The enlarged prostate is responsible for urinary problems, such as dysuria, pollakiuria, nocturia, urgent need to urinate, burning when urinating.

What are the Causes of Enlarged Prostate?
Although it is still a subject of study, it can be said that problems related to this organ arise more frequently with aging and the resulting hormonal change.
The connection between enlarged prostate and aging would explain why benign prostatic hypertrophy is particularly common among older men.
It is therefore essential for men in their fifties, even if they are perfectly healthy, to carry out periodic prostate examinations to avoid the onset of problems which, if ignored, could become very annoying and difficult to eliminate.
On the basis of other scientific studies, in addition to aging, would affect the development of the enlarged prostate factors such as:

  • Familiarity with benign prostatic hyperplasia;
  • Overweight/obesity;
  • Cardiovascular disease;
  • Diabetes;
  • Sedentariness.

The main symptoms of a prostate problem are:

  • difficulty urinating (dysuria);
  • Impelling need to urinate, even if you’ve done it recently;
  • Burning when urinating;
  • Frequent urination, but with the emission of small amounts of urine (pollakiuria);
  • Need to urinate often during the night (nocturia);
  • Sense of incomplete bladder emptying;
  • Weak and/or intermittent urination (means that the urine flow may be weak and slow and/or may stop several times);
  • Loss of a few drops of urine after urination;
  • Hematuria, i.e. blood in the urine (rare);

It should be noted that the enlarged prostate is not always symptomatic and, when it is symptomatic, it does not always determine all the symptoms mentioned above: there are, in fact, men with prostate adenoma who do not present any significant disturbance; men with prostate adenoma who present the entire symptomatological picture above; finally, men with benign prostatic hypertrophy who suffer from only some of the urinary problems in question.

How can we prevent prostate problems?
EATING TOMATOES
This would be due to the presence in this vegetable of lycopene, an antioxidant active ingredient with anti-tumor power but also useful to keep hypertension and cholesterol at bay.

EATING YELLOW AND GREEN VEGETABLES
Experts recommend a diet based on yellow and green vegetables and fruit. An important role is played by olive oil, which is able, within a healthy and balanced diet, to ward off the risk of this cancer.

AVOID IRRITATING FOODS
These are spices, especially pepper and chilli, coffee, chocolate, sausages, fatty cheese, beer, super spirits, seafood and fatty fish.

DRINK A LOT
Specifically, this serves to prevent the risk of urinary tract infections. The water should be drunk during the day frequently reducing instead drastically the consumption towards evening to avoid the need to go to the bathroom at night.

HAVE SEX REGULARLY
It would be due to the fact that frequent ejaculations would prevent stagnation in the intimate male areas and therefore possible infections.

EXERCISE
Regular and moderate physical activity or sport stimulates circulation in the pelvic area by reducing congestion.

REDUCE THE USE OF MOTORCYCLES, SCOOTERS AND BICYCLES
Using motorcycles, scooters or bicycles too often could create perineum micro-trauma in the long run and consequently lead to inflammation of the prostate.

INTESTINAL REGULARITY
It may seem strange but maintaining intestinal regularity is crucial for the prostate as imbalances in intestinal function can generate the passage of pathogenic microorganisms to the prostate creating inflammation and disease.

DO PERIODIC CHECK-UPS
Experts advise all men over the age of 50 to have a urological examination every year. And always remember that prevention is better than cure!

ATTENTION TO SUPPLEMENTS
An Italian study in 2015 showed that taking too many dietary supplements of antioxidants can increase the risk of developing prostate cancer. The conclusions of this research have been changed and revised several times over the years creating some confusion. The best solution is to consult an expert and NEVER follow a do-it-yourself treatment!

KEGEL EXERCISES 
The pelvic area is a very delicate area that can be strengthened with a particular maneuver.
For men it consists of contracting and pulling in the muscles surrounding the anus and urethra, keeping the contraction for a few seconds and then relaxing the muscles. This exercise can be repeated 8-10 times, relaxing for a few seconds between each.
After familiarising yourself with this exercise, you can move on to the next one, which consists of repeating 5-10 of these contractions, but short and fast and intense.
These exercises, which can be repeated at any time of the day and in any place, can not only improve the firmness of the pelvic floor, positively affecting many problems, but also prevent its relaxation.
These exercises are not directly related to the prevention of prostate problems but they will certainly help you to deal with any urinary difficulties and the like.
